Fort Indiantown Gap

This is a picture of the new burial style being used at the Fort Indiantown Gap cemetery.  They are hollowed out walls where ashes can be placed then a stone placed over them to cover it.  It saves a lot of space and it is easier for people to find their relatives.  My Great Aunt Mable was one of the first to be placed in one of these walls and her husband Mike was able to be placed in the same compartment as her after he died.  I like the new style and it gives the cemetery the ability to bury more veterans.  Going to the cemetery at Indiantown Gap is pretty important to my family especially on my dad’s side.  His parents are both there, as well as an uncle and two aunts.  We usually go to the cemetery a few times a year to decorate their graves and to see how the rows have changed around them.  As the cemetery grows, the cemetery at Indiantown Gap gains the possibility of being the largest veteran cemetery on the east coast, and will possibly pass out Arlington someday.  The cemetery also has its own church where services can be held year round.
