Butterfly

This poor butterfly was trapped inside yesterday. It insisted on staying up high, fluttering against the glass which probably damaged its wings. 
Today it came down lower, so I gently caught it  i.e. it walked onto my hands, and took it outside.  I had to encouraged it to walk off my finger onto a plant outside. There it sat enjoying the sun while I took this shot.

What sort is it anyone know?
