minding your own business,
thinking you’ve got all the time

in the world, but then, suddenly,
your world is shrinking, fast,
and the day that will be your last

pulls up outside your door
and hoots its horn to let you know
it’s out there with the engine running.

Did you order the taxi of death?
Or an ambulance? Did you say
