Waiting

My mum, my daughter and I watched the brightest, warmest day of the UK year through the muted windows of public transport heading for Gatwick and arrived in Barcelona to a brilliant evening display of missed sun. My sister, who should be with us, has been delayed by unreliable plane schedules and bad weather.

My mum, my daughter and I have climbed three floors to the flat my sister organised, found the local fruit and vegetable stall, stood behind the construction workers’ barricade to look at the extraordinary St Antoni market undergoing a major renovation and are now in a tasteful tapas bar, feeling incomplete.
