Crossing cultures

The predicted cyclone didn't arrive and we got back to Auckland safely.

In the evening we went to a performance of Verdi's Macbeth as part of the Auckland Arts Festival. This opera is a cross cultural experience in itself - English playwright, Italian composer, Scottish play. But tonight it was performed in New Zealand, by a South African company and set in the Rwandan genocide of the 1990s - a real cultural melting pot! Macbeth is always a powerful play but even more so when presented in a modern day political context.

There was no photography allowed in the auditorium so I have pictures the merchandise table to give some idea of the vibrancy of the production.
