Lunch is being served

Shrikes are small, predatory songbirds that impale their prey on barbed wire fences or thorny vegetation. Because it lacks talons and strong feet of hawks and owls, the shrike must impale its prey. This behavior has earned it the colloquial name "butcher bird". Impaling prey also serves another purpose for the male; it demonstrates his hunting prowess, which helps him attract a mate.
They are very plentiful at the wetlands I go to here in Eastern Central Florida
