Talpid with creel

It being Mother's day we have been visited by our Talpids and their own Talpids.
This is the youngest Talpid posing with a child's fish creel. The creel, a detailed and authentic miniature of the real thing, was made for her great grand-mother Christina, in Peterhead around 1918,  for use in a Christmas play.
In the early part of the 20th century women from local fishing communities would walk to the Ythan estuary to load up their creels with mussels, Mytilis edulis, to be used as fish bait on the long lines used at that time. These days they seem to be used for carrying stuffed cats!
I also photographed our oldest granddaughter with the creel some 11 years ago, on the banks of the Ythan.
