Hospital of St John Baptist, High Wycombe

These Gothic-looking ruins are the remains of the Hospital of St John the Baptist, just off the London Road in Wycombe. It was founded in about 1180 and inhabited by a Master and small community of brothers and sisters caring for the poor people of the area.
It was closed in 1548, as part of the dissolution of the monasteries, and the buildings were acquired by the town for a school which opened in 1550. The Royal Grammar School, which is now on Amersham Hill, used the hospital buildings until 1883.
