Crucifixion painting in cave on Davaar Island....

An early start today, and an incredible morning spent walking out at low tide to Davaar Island, just outside Campbeltown. An interesting history to this painting...

According to Wikipedia....

The island is also known for its seven caves, one of which contains a life size cave painting depicting the crucifixion, painted in 1887 by local artist Archibald MacKinnon after he had a vision in a dream suggesting him to do so. The painting caused uproar in the area as it was seen as a sign from God; it is said that when the townsfolk discovered it was MacKinnon, and not God, he was exiled from the town indefinitely. Restored several times since, including twice by the original artist, the painting was vandalised in July 2006, having a red and black depiction of Che Guevara painted over the original masterpiece. It has since been restored again.


The walk out was beautiful....over a shingle spit...
The cave art is really beautiful...and how he managed to paint it is a mystery...it's not very accessable...even inside the cave.
The cave is deep, and this morning was just filled with sunlight..
It's outlook was incredible and peaceful...right out over the sea!!! Well worth it...am I selling this well??!! :-))


The route back was even better...round the other way towards the Lighthouse. The rock pools there were incredible. I saw so much...fish, crabs, a lizard in the cave, oyster catchers galore, jelly fish...and a ton of other stuff I don't know the name for!!! Amazing!! :-))

Unfortunatley I fell on the rocks...I have an ongoing dodgy ankle after a fall a few years ago. And the rocks gave way!!! RATS!! Now have a nicely swollen and grazed wrist...but very minor!!! Thank goodness I had put the camera safely away!!!

Off to the beach...then will have to pack up tonight...leave early tomorrow. Will not have time to comment today or tomorrow....thankyou all for following my little adventures!! Will likely not blip tomorrow either...but backblip instead!! Have a load of places I want to see en route home!!!!!! :-))
