Marlborough Sounds

Took the interislander ferry on the scenic trip from the north island to south island. The ferry sails around the beautiful Marlborough sounds before docking at Picton. We then drove along the winding Queen Charlotte Drive with views across the sounds. On our way we stopped off at Havelock, green-lipped mussel capital of the world and had some mussels of course. We ended up taking a wrong turn and driving down a winding unsealed track in our large campervan as it was getting dark and I saw a wide eyed possum in the road (but managed to avoid him). We found our way again and stopped off at Pelorus bridge for the night. This beautiful area was used when filming the Hobbit movie and we went on a lovely walk in the woods and along the river the following morning.
