Beautiful Mekong

Although we weren't eaten alive, we didn't sleep well.  The mozzy net was hanging in our faces half the night so we were scrunched up in the middle of the mattress ... we'll try and do it better tonight.  Its so weird how there are so many more bugs over here ... we were only across the river before and it was fine to sit out at night.

This is our last day in Laos before heading across the border to Cambodia tomorrow.  We were going to cross and then have a night in a place called Stung Treng to break up our journey to Siem Reap but, after chatting to a couple of Argentinians who have arrived at our huts this morning, we decide to go the whole way to Siem Reap tomorrow on the new road using a mini bus company we've read about and which their friends also recommend.

The border is notorious for scams and we have decided to negotiate it ourselves rather than using an agent which a lot of people do. The Argentinian couple are doing the same.  We need some US dollars so head off to find some and cycle around the island again, avoiding the Jungle Bar this time.  We have a final dip in the Mekong and head into the main bar area for the evening, having a nice curry and enjoying a final Beer Laos.
