Matilda Day 08
Another long journey. It's 250 miles from Walpole to Margaret River, our destination for today. It's the last of our campsites and will be our longest stay in any one place. We make one quick stop at Pemberton, a logging town, for coffee and make the rest of the journey in one hit.
Part of this journey takes us through the aftermath of a huge bushfire which happened just a few weeks before we arrived. It's an amazing sight. Miles of blackened trees, shrubs and undergrowth. Already, though, there are many signs of regrowth. Green shoots pushing up through the inches of ash on the ground and green fronds growing out of the top of what look like blackened stumps. On one side of the road the sun backlights some of the fresh green growth covering the tree trunks. The resilience of nature is awesome. Glyn tells us that in a couple of years there will be no signs left of the current devastation.
