IMPACT's action in #Kenya
Katuanyaga School is one of the 400+ schools that IMPACT East Africa has been working with in Embu District. IMPACT installed a borehole, to provide clean water, in the school grounds; ‘The pupils no longer go the river which is 10km away…Our school mean score will improve because pupils won’t miss school to fetch water,’ wrote one teacher.
IMPACT’s School Health Monitoring scheme has also been successful here. 16 health monitors have been trained and IMPACT’s Community Health Nurse and ENT Clinical Officer have screened pupils for ill-health; distributed de-worming medicine and vitamin A; and conducted health education sessions with the entire school. Two vegetable gardens have also been established, growing kale, tomatoes and onions and 250 tree seedlings planted to combat environmental degradation.
