Goldfinch.
I haven't seen a Goldfinch at the feeders since early autumn, so it was quite a surprise when I glanced out this morning and there one was. It very obligingly stayed while I got the camera changed lenses (why is it always the wrong one you have on?) and got a quick shot through the window.
Previously we have had them present all winter which is probably more surprising than them not being here. In winter they move into the lowland areas if you remember the Tees Exe line from your school geography that will give you a good idea of where most of them are during winter (south of the line). So if they are back it must be spring!
