Close Call
The fires have now taken 5 homes and one luxury hotel in Hout Bay.
Yesterday the fires spread to the Tokai Forest. We saw the black plume of the pine trees as the fires spread to there.
Its heartbreaking stuff.
We were going to head to Cape Point for the day but because of the fires we went to the top of Table Mountain instead.
One side the fantastic views of Cape Town, Robben Island and the ocean... the other side mountains raging with smoke from the fires. Muizenburg, Chapmans Peak at Hout Bay, Tokai and Noordhoek.
You cannot help but feel humbled by the experience but also a great deal of admiration for the emergency services who are battling the extremes and doing a stirling job.
We were sat in a restaurant by the harbour in Hout Bay eating dinner watching these fires burn on Chapmans Peak and astonished at how quick it spreads and how perilously close they are to houses (which were saved).
