Gore Bay......

........and all its beauty.

It was a day for me to get my long distance driving skills up to date, sadly they've been lacking as hubby has always driven, and it was a day for taking fellow blipper JMK to a place that was new to her. Stopping at Cheviot for an early lunch we then drove out to the coast. The weather was perfect, calm with just a light sea mist drifting round the cliffs, the sea was glorious shades of blue with lovely white waves glistening in the sunlight. As the tide receded wonderful reflections of the sandstone cliffs lay upon the wet sand gently outlined by bubbles of sea foam - it was pure magic.

Now that the summer rush is over the small settlement of Gore Bay has resumed to its more leisurely pace nestled between the hills and the Pacific Ocean. Curtains were drawn, the road was quiet, birds were singing, a few people were ambling and the last of the summer flowers were nodding their heads. We were delighted to see four Kereru, commonly known as wood pigeons, feeding on ripening orange berries of which I'm still researching for the name, does anyone local know what they are?

On the way home we stopped at another favourite place, the Hurunui River Mouth. Being high up we could really see the different shades of blue of the Pacific Ocean, a fisherman was fishing in the waves at the mouth of the river, gulls and terns were gliding by while the distant white cliffs of Nape Nape were caught in the light, they can be seen on JMK's blip.

It felt good standing there with a friend enjoying the view, a day that felt more like the last days of summer rather than the early days of autumn. And the driving went well, I can see more long distance adventures unfolding.

Happy Thursday everyone :)
