This piece of grass could be the beginning of something amazing, or of course it could damp off! It's the first germination of some Phyllostachys edulis, the Moso Bamboo, probably the biggest hardy bamboo anywhere. Although it really needs more summer heat than we have to do well, it's hardy down to zero Fahrenheit and can grow to enormous heights - even in Oregon it grows to at least 50ft and can reach 70ft!
