Hospitality

This evening in our parish we had a two hour presentation and reflection on hospitality and the people who were invited to do it, and who better qualified than our good friends from St John of God Services in Stilorgan.
The Hospitaller Order is an international Religious Order providing health and social care to millions of sick, vulnerable and disadvantaged people in 52 countries throughout the world, working in collaboration with 45,000 co-workers and health professionals.
The legacy of its founder, Saint John of God (1495 -1550) is a mission of hospitality and compassion that has continued and grown over five centuries.
Their Mission Statement
"Without discrimination, we aim to ensure freedom of choice, personal advancement and support for the exercise of human and civil rights."

They have five pillars on which they deliver their service;
Hospitality ? Compassion ? Respect ? Justice ? Excellence.

For almost half of the past six years we have been offered the hospitality of the order in Mzuzu and the success of our mission in Malawi is fully down to their influence and hospitality, especially the guiding hand of our host, Br Aidan Clohessy, a one-off genius who has started from scratch sixteen years ago in Malawi and now runs a, First World, Mental Health Service including a Third level college (University for health sciences). Their graduates return to many surrounding countries, with a level of Hospitality ? Compassion ? Respect ? Justice ? Excellence. rarely seen elsewhere.

Br Aidan is in Ireland tonight and we are just back from dinner out with him. We will be back to Malawi and home again, before he returns again!!
