Cycle trip
One of our plans for this holiday is to get some bike training in. The weather so far has been difficult!
We took the hybrid bikes with us rather than road bikes since we're planning to go over to the island of Lismore which has some unpaved roads. After last night's wind, JT wasn't being persuaded to get on any ferry, even a 5 minute passenger one.
The trip started badly; a puncture before we left the car park which had to be fixed in a short hail shower... Then some gear issues meant much swearing and random fiddling with screwdrivers.
So we repeated what we did before; a round trip to Glencoe village which is almost all on the rather fabby Sustrans 78 cycle path. At the end we were just short of 40miles with a necessary lunch stop. It was tougher on the heavier bikes and with a nasty headwind on the way back!
As we approached the hotel, there was only one thought in my mind. Cycling required a jacket, three layers on top, cycle shorts, thermal long johns and trousers. Swimming required only cycle shorts, base layer on top plus neoprene socks, gloves and hat. Only 10 mins, quite choppy but magical.
