balm-y

the day was too much of a gift to spend too much of it doing chores and I needed a change of scene, something to ease the feeling of displacement that's been niggling at me the past couple of days. So I stuffed a backpack with necessities and drove the lanes into the Lake District, stopping at the Tranearth junction, booted up and hiked up the lanes into the foothills. I took the Walna Scarr bridleway, it's high drystone walls covered in mosses and lichens. Soon I was passing by ancient woodlands, accompanied by the sound of birds revelling in the warmth (10C / 50F) and the distant roar of the river below. The bridleway twisted and turned, new views revealed at each corner, wider vistas over the fells and mountains beyond. I stopped a while atop a crag to take it all in, then time to head back. Balm.
