Yellow lines and parking bays
After much to-ing and fro-ing over the last few years, with consultations after consultations, the council have today started putting in residents' parking in our road., together with yellow lines outside the bays.
We've got mixed views about the new arrangements. On the one hand we're pleased that it will stop the commuter parking in our road. We are only five minutes away from the station, so we obviously get a lot of commuters parking outside our house. The new rules will require permits to be displayed for just one hour during the working day, which means that commuters will be prevented from parking, but there will still be plenty of parking for visitors at other times.
Against this, there are a few down sides: Firstly, we'll have to pay for a resident's parking permit for any cars parked on the road. Secondly, it looks horrible, with garish yellow lines and parking bays, and posts on the verge with signs saying 'permit holders only'. And thirdly, it could actually make the road more dangerous because it will be much easier to drive at high speeds without all the cars parked there
