What do you find soothing?
That's what I asked HJN earlier. She was feeling anxious about how disorientated she was feeling. She was holding a little notepad and writing lists in it and 'facts'. I wondered whether that attempt to ground herself was calming her or increasing her stress.
She said she found drawing calmed her. I'd like to say I left her with a sketchbook and pencil in her hand, but she was still clutching her notepad.
When I came back home, after writing a few lists myself and resisting the temptation to hide under my duvet in foetal position, I scanned a couple of drawings I did the other day for the book. And I feel a bit better.
I'll give her a call now and say: it works!
