Unmoved
Remember one of last week’s blips involved the Mark E Smith-attributed line, “It’s not repetition, it’s discipline” well here’s another. I’ve done this shot before, more than once even I imagine, but this fella walking by fits into that bottom-right corner of the frame so nicely it just had to be. Plus, when I went to my usual spot to grab a few shots that would basically replicate almost exactly some that I took yesterday I found metal fences up, workmen and a hive of activity buzzing about. No access. Damn, and then there’s tomorrow’s gig anniversary thing to think about as well…
Talking of which, another one today, thick and fast – four gigs in a week back in them carefree, responsibility-free, child-free days. Some friends of mine had been to see A Certain Band (no clue there, it was merely ACB rather than ACR, stick with me and it will make sense) at the Take Two club a few weeks previous – and the thing about the Take Two club was that altho’ it got some good up-and-coming bands, and was actually a cracking venue in its own right, it involved a bus ride over to a side of town far from Studentland and for that main reason it wasn’t really a big draw for the majority, I only ever went there a couple of times myself (and one of them was a no-show, all that way to the industrial wilds of Outer Sheff only for Biff! Bang! Pow! to have cancelled) - so, these friends of mine were raving about this band that they and about 20 other lucky souls had seen and that I should go and see them when they played the Lower Refectory on Friday, 9th March 1990. And, on their recommendation I paid my £3.50 to go and see The Charlatans and, you know what, I know some people love ‘em to bits, and whenever I hear Tim Burgess on the radio he sounds like an absolutely lovely man, and just the fact that he’s got a coffee shop called Tim Peaks really endears him to me, but I thought they were very mediocre, decidedly ordinary and I couldn’t see what all the fuss was about. And, apart from the odd bit of bopping around to ‘The Only One I Know’ at an infrequent disco or two I’ve never really rated them since. They just don’t do it for me.
So, whilst I could link to summat by Tim and his mob I’ll go for a completely different tune instead.
