International Women's Day

Today has been a day for celebration of women around the world. International Women's Day is not some new-fangled notion, it has been celebrated since the early 1900s.

Equality still has a long way to go, especially in some parts of the world, and more than a hundred years since the need to work towards it was first recognised.

I will leave the politics of it all to others. Today I'll just take quiet pride in young women like my daughter, who works hard in a demanding full-time job, studies part-time at London University in the evenings, and still finds time to bake yummy treats like this hazelnut and white chocolate couronne.
