Balcombe Viaduct

Well today had been planned as a day at the beach but poorly children up coughing lots last night halted that.
Instead, we still wanted to get out of the house for a bit so went for a short drive to Balcombe Viaduct.
We had spotted it earlier in the week when we went to Nymans as it was a clear day and it reminded me we were planning to take the kids.
Well we parked in the very muddy convenient layby near the footpath along with a fair few other cars and joined a few other families, photographers, people in period costume?! And dog walkers who were all enjoying the view!
Henry especially was extremely excited when he saw a train go over! The viaduct is on the main London to Brighton line and has lovely views from the train as you cross it.
We squelched across the field over to the one arch that you can go right under (the footpath goes this way) and all of us were in awe of this view through all the arches. Lots of others were too and a couple of photographers were snapping away with their slrs. I only had the phone so this was the best I could do!
We continued under the viaduct on the footpath over a couple of stiles and up a hilly field the other side which gives magnificent views of the whole of the viaduct. It also makes you clearly visible to trains heading North and pippa and henry loved that one train sounded it's horn lots at the 4 of us waving madly :)
A lovely little excursion even with poorly kids!
