Cast iron milepost.
I have always liked these lovely old things. In 1767, a law was introduced whereby every turnpike and toll road had to have a milepost, but during the last war, in an effort to confuse any potential invaders, thousands of these items were removed and melted down. Also many have been lost where road widening schemes have been introduced and surprisingly, many have been lost due to collision damage over the years. The one shown in the blip is on the road between Bridgend and Cowbridge in South Wales.
