Gone to the Birds

Working a weekend isn't all bad. We made the best of the relatively milder weather today and took two clients to Little Cat Creek Conservation Area to feed the chickadees. This hand belongs to a curmudgeonly old lady who spent most of her adult life living in a psychiatric facility and who has been through more than most of us could even imagine. As she stood there strong and proud, looking to outsiders like someone just pulled from a dumpster, a small bird landed on her hand. Eyes full of tears, she said, "all the hate and anger in the world and this little bird just loves me." It's not all bad working a weekend. Sometimes it's absolutely awesome!
