A Most Beautiful Spooky

Cullis and Gladys Wade Clock Museum at Mississippi State University is a most bizarre place. Imagine a room filled with 400 some clocks, all marching to their own beat, ticking softly or loudly, striking ever so often, seemingly whenever they please. Some don’t work. Or so I thought… a receptionist informed me today that a most peculiar thing happens from time to time: the still clocks come to life.

I was there today, taking pictures, when all of a sudden I felt as if I were watched. Four hundred faces looking at me, talking their strange tick-tock talk. Some seemed quite chirpy, while others were tired and discouraged. All of a sudden, I understood. These are soul clocks that measure out human time on Earth! The still ones are of those souls who are between worlds. That’s why they start back up on their own accord out of the blue: a new life’s beginning.

I bet there are millions of museums like this one, scattered around the world, where the clocks tick away our Earthly breaths, stop, and then start back again as we change form from one to the next.

Tick-tock. Tick-tock. Tick-tock.

PS. I dedicate this post to the memory of ceridwen's half-brother, The Old Man. I think he would have liked this museum.
