Singer
Singer Corporation is an American manufacturer of sewing machines, first established as I. M. Singer & Co. in 1851 by Isaac Merritt Singer with New York lawyer Edward Clark. Best known for its sewing machines, it was renamed Singer Manufacturing Company. There was a large manufacturing base in Clydebank, Glasgow which closed in 1980. Not sure where ours was built but I presume there is a good chance it was manufactured there.
That's the blurb.
No time to get out today so resorted to home-grown image of our Singer treadle sewing machine, an heir loom, which sits in our living room. Its an amazing piece of history and has some intricate iron work below the sewing machine which is ingeniously tucked away. My blip today is a detail of this.
