Scouts

I'm away for a couple of days, this week, so I'm having Dan and Abi, tonight. Monday is Scouts night, so it's a bit odd: pick them up after work, quick bite to eat, walk them up to Scouts, and then pop back up an hour and a half later to collect them. We don't seem to get that much time to do anything.

Still, it was nice that it was still light when I picked them up at half-five and I took this picture from the decking at the back of the house. Despite forecasts that it was going to snow all day, today, it didn't, so the only sign of yesterday's heavy fall is what's left on the hills.

It was certainly dark by the time we walked to and from Scouts, though. As usual, it didn't finish on time so all the parents stood at the back of the hall watching the kids tidy up and then go though the rituals that end their meeting. It's curiously timeless; the atmosphere, the noise, the behaviour hasn't changed much since I was a Scout more than thirty years ago. I guess that's down to the fact that there's been no technological impact on Scouting, so it's still just a bunch of people doing stuff in a hall. I find that curiously reassuring.
