I've tried and failed to photograph this on and off for a while as I pass on my way back from Lancaster. It reminds me of 19th century industrial revolution paintings and artists like Joseph Wright of Derby with their wonderfully surreal light effects. It makes me think of the Morlocks in the Time Machine. And, of that sense of perpetual motion and production and those parts of the human condition that continue to work away, burning brightly in darkness, or working away industrially hard for no clearly understood reason or purpose, or purposes that are lost in time and unknown depths. Some sort of unconscious industry.
