Drumming

After trips to the Alps and days getting IntotheHills - I couldn't put it off any longer & had to hit the desk - & yes that makes the knee ache worse than anything else.
We were out early - but to be fair after such a glorious day yesterday it just seemed was grim - a bracing wind, low cloud & hints of sleet - the dog got her miles & we got shivvery.
I was nicely distracted from the computer by your Blips & banter with a good friend - but slowly I got some work done - looking up as the evening approached I was pleased to see the sky had cleared a little and it was still light - well pooch never says no to walks - so I thought we'd have a quick blast round the lanes before an evening back on the spreadsheets & strategy documents.
As we mooched strode purposefully through the nature reserve I could hear the familiar & distinctive drumming of a Greater Spotted Woodpecker. It took a while but eventually we found him drumming away at the top of this dead tree - with Spring in the air the frequency of his rhythm made it clear he's trying to attract a mate - something that shouldn't be a problem in our woods - we counted seven different woodpeckers on our feeders recently - they're amongst our most frequent and noticeable visitors.
