Gool Perran Lowen

Today is St Piran's Day here in Cornwall, and  " Gool Perran Lowen" is Cornish  for "Happy St Piran's Day"

St Piran is the 5th century saint , who came over from Ireland., and the patron saint of tin miners, and so therefore the patron saint of Cornwall.

We happened to be in Penzance to see the end of the parade of about 600 school children, who were parading through the streets,. Dancing the "furry" dance to the school bands which were accompanying them.
Glad the weather was warm in the sunshine, as many were in short sleeves!

After coffee and scones, we went to see the new exhibition in the Penlee Art Gallery, of photos of the area, taken in the 1800's and photos of the same places taken last November. It was nice to compare the two.
Some so very different, and some looked very much the same.

As it was a warm day we in the gardens to eat our pasties!
( also a free saffron bun, as it was St Piran's day!)
It was lovely to see the large magnolia in flower.

In the collage you will also see a plate full of fish.
6 small sole, freshly caught, and bought for £5!  Yes, 6 fish for £5.00!!

Certainly looking forward to tea!!!
