River bed spider

As we walked up the Hawdon River, we saw this spider darting across the river worn rocks. It's name is Dolomedes aquaticus, because it can stay under water for short periods.  These spiders are typical of open river bed habitat, and are usually nocturnal, emerging at night to catch their prey.
