Betula Pendula

.....  commonly known as Silver Birch Tree.

Its a hardy species, often found in barren windswept locations.  There are some people who know the names of every tree, every flower, every bird - I am not like that (but would like to be) - but the silver birch is an exception to that rule.    I would recognise it anywhere.  

Confucius said  — 'The tree which bends in the wind is stronger than the mighty oak which breaks in a storm.'

I quite like this adage - I think it means that a person who can be flexible and can change (when change is called for) will survive, whereas a person who will not consider other options or look at things differently, might not weather life's occasional storms so easily
