The last Hurrah!

Ever so slightly sad. Where there had once been a hive of activity there are now just bare fields bereft of short-eared owls and a country lane empty of cars, cameras, bins and woolly hats.

As the biting wind cut into me this afternoon while watching over the grasses for just a movement of owl activity I did feel a pang of regret at their leaving, as it had given me hours of pleasure these last few weeks. I did see this little chap way on the horizon but was told he would be gone soon like all the others. What a flight they will have to Scandinavia. You would think with all the voles they have all consumed - 2,000 each in the short stay here, that they would be weighed down with excess weight!

So hope they will be back next year - fingers crossed.
