Sheffield

We did the early dash thing, this morning. Up at six and in the car thirty minutes later, ensuring a quick exit from Leicester, which, I must say, looked even more alluring in the daylight. We need to come back for a proper visit.

We were following that satnav on the Minx's 'phone which suddenly started to get a bit anxious about an incident on the A500 and wanted us to turn south. It's nice to be going out with somebody who has the same hang ups as you, and there was no question of turning around and heading *away* from our destination. After a brief discussion, we decided to head further north and take Snake Pass.

As it happens, this involved us passing through Sheffield (or nearly through; there was a ring road bit). I don't think I've been to Sheffield for twenty-five years but, funnily enough, my daughter, Milly, is thinking of coming to university here, next year. So it was with a heightened interest that I looked around me as the Minx navigated us through the city's road network.

We did pass through what appeared to be a student quarter and I must admit to being slightly perplexed by the number of young people who were up, dressed, and heading intently towards what I can only imagine were lectures and seminars. Maybe we can be optimistic about the next generation: they might just do a better job than us*.

*Not vote the Tories in.

PS Leonard Nimoy passed away, today. I was always a fan of this and I wrote this post by way of a tribute. Of sorts.
