What a lovely day:-

To Have a Slap up Tea

I had to go to Douglas this morning.  I returned along the coast and stopped at Laxey to take this photograph.

Here you see a terrace of cottages.  They were originally built in the 19th Century to house workers in the nearby Laxey Mines. It was originally called Dumbell's Terrace, after the name of the mine owner.  They remain largely unchanged to the present day.

With one exception however.  The end of terrace house(s) became a cafe around the time of the Isle of Man boom in the tourist trade in the 1890s.  Day trippers would stop off here for refreshment and no doubt their slang expression for the place became enshrined in the terrace sign.
