nearly there
The days of looking out of the cockpit window to check progress are long gone. Now a plane’s progress is constantly updated for all to see.
When I was a boy I made hundreds of model aeroplanes. Plastic to begin with - Airfix, Frog and Revell. Then I graduated to KeilKraft and Balsa wood; planes that could actually fly.
I quickly came to understand the principles of flight and realised what a truly amazing invention the aeroplane is. Even now, thousands of feet above the Earth, I find that I have a sense of awe and wonder no less than it was back then.
What I don’t understand though, is why I feel the need to keep my fingers crossed when we take off - just as I did with my balsa wood planes.
ps. It’s just before midnight when we emerge into the carpark at Perth airport. The stars are out and it’s 20C.
pps. Thanks for all your good wishes. Will catch up with blips and comments soon.
