Fritillaria stenanthera
Following yesterdays offering, here is another unusual fritillary. This one is much shorter, as the flowers open it is around 15cm tall, extending to around 20cm when fully open. From mountains in Uzbekistan, it needs some protection in UK gardens where summer wet would bring bulb rots. I grow it in one of the cold frames, in amongst the crocuses.
Good news for yesterdays lone Fritillaria raddeana, tidying up in the seed frame today I found a pot of germinating seed of this species. More bulbs and hopefully more flowers ..... in four or five years time :-)
