There and back again

Crazywell Cross, Dartmoor.

Today Mrs M and I followed the old track that leads up onto the moor from Norsworthy Bridge.  After a few miles the track  runs out across open moorland and soon a granite cross can be seen silhouetted against the skyline a few hundred yards above the track.
This cross is believed to be one of a number that marks an old path from Buckfast Abbey across the moor to the abbey at Tavistock and Buckland and has been called the "Abbots Way" or the "Monks Path".
Like many of these crosses this one has been damaged and repaired by mounting the old head onto a new shaft.  Today  there was a bunch of fresh daffs laid on the cross which is not unusual as I suspect these places are often used to spread peoples ashes.
