Rental Car: Nissan Maxima

Since we planned on/have to work on the truck this weekend, and most of the work involves the transmission, we rented a car to ensure that we'd be able to get more parts or anything else we might need while the truck is inoperable.

This is a Nissan Maxima. I drove it. It's comfortable to sit in, but I really hate this car. The CVT in it is pretty awful. I mean, the Nissan Versa we were stuck with for a while after our Honda Fit was totalled last year was really awful and we traded it back to the rental company because it didn't feel safe, the Maxima is just...wow. It's jerky and it doesn't like to drive. It tries to accelerate from 0-70mph in half a second and lurches forward a lot when driving slowly and trying to gently accelerate. It also doesn't like to brake smoothly.

I felt very self-conscious while driving it, and like I was an awful driver. I told B how I felt about it and after he drove it, he said that I wasn't a bad driver, that the car really was that awful. He's not the type to lie to me about my driving just to make me feel better. (While my feelings may get hurt, I prefer the honesty so I can try to improve my driving.)

So I'm not really impressed with the Nissan Maxima. I wish the rental had ended up being a Ford Fusion again, because I really fell in love with that car model after driving one for nearly three thousand miles (we travelled over three thousand miles, but I didn't drive the entirety or if) around Thanksgiving.

Let's just say that I really hate the way the Maxima drives so much that if I was given one for free, I'd sell it and use the money to buy a different car.

I mean, we need it to get parts for the truck while we work on it. And it'll serve that purpose. It's a rental, after all. But I would never willingly own one, that's for sure.
