8 mile canal walk
Each time we walk along the local canal, we talk of doing the 'big one'. The walk from Ashton to Marple. Today, we finally did it!
This collage is a collection of just a few of the tunnels we went through and bridges we crossed. By the time we reached Marple we were shattered - and my feet were crying out for me to stop. ( Terrible walking shoes were to blame!!!)
The worst canal paths were just after Hyde, where the footpaths were just mud for quite a distance - just hard work to keep our feet dry. The hairiest bit was the Woodley Tunnel~(bottom corner of collage with graffiti and light in distance). 153 metres long - we could see daylight from the entrance, so plodded on. But halfway through, we couldn't see anything at all, except the daylight at the exit. Neither of us had torches, so I was so relieved when we reached the end.
We crossed the Marple Aquaduct, and the paths became prettier and more people appeared along the canal's bank. We marched on into the small town, and into a lovely deli for some well earned sustinance.
The idea was that we would walk home, but my feet were having none of that and so we got the bus home.
So now we have a new target - when I get some new walking shoes. Marple and back!!!
