Leura Mall Wide

I woke up this morning to uninterrupted blue sky. I thought that by this afternoon's mellow light I'd probably be able to score one of those "technicolor" Blue Mountains scenes that I like to do.. Nope. Wasn't to be. By mid afternoon it was back to overcast skies and the threat of heavy rain - which we duly received with much thundering and fanfare. 8mm of precipitation in about 20 minutes. When I walk, my shoes now squelch somewhat.(sigh)

I was at Leura, playing with my Olympus BCL 9mm wide angle lens yet again and before the weather histrionics began I grabbed this otherwise unremarkable shot of Leura Mall. I continue to be impressed with what I expected to be a frivolous purchase. This thing is half way decent glass.

Anyway, just for fun, over the next several weeks, each Wednesday, I am going to run a little challenge for anyone who'd like to give their wide angled lenses and wide angle zoom settings just a little exercise. I'll call it WIDE ANGLE WEDNESDAY. All participants for this upcoming Wednesday 4th March should tag their postings "widwed01".

The definition of a fair dinkum wide angled lens these days is pretty much the full frame equivalent of 28mm or less. This particular lens (above) has a full frame equivalent of 18mm for instance. But having said that, we should also count the widest possible setting of what ever normal zoom lens you happen to have, fixed or interchangeable. Specialist lens types like "lens babies" or "fisheyes" are also counted as are add-on wide angled adapters and software manipulation.

The theme for this week is simply "DISTORTION" ...... Clue: If you tilt any wide angle lens from the horizontal while reasonably close to something, the distortions can be fun. Clue2: If you focus as close to an object as the wide angled lens allows you, you should see some VERY handsome distortions. I hope you can join me.
