Above And Beyond...

The Billionaire Tycoon

Cardiff City were playing at home today against Wolverhampton Wanderers. There was nothing special in this itself, but it was the first match the owner, Vincent Tan, has attended for 9 months.

He probably stayed away as he'd become very unpopular over the way he'd changed the Cardiff City (The Bluebirds) kit from blue to red, against the fans wishes. There was a lot of campaigning to get the decision reversed. He eventually changed his mind about a month ago, and Cardiff got special dispensation to change to blue immediately. Tan claimed he'd done it after his mother told him too, and the reasons why he should.

Tan walked around the stadium before the match and, in general, was well received by supporters.

Cardiff went a goal down after 22 minutes. The second half they had a player sent off and eventually lost 1-0. The consolation is that Cardiff seemed the better team and played with much 'spirit'.

In the blip photo, Tan is the one with dark glasses. A 'minder' is stood behind him. I quite like some of the expressions of people in the directors box.

Tan is a billionaire. A Malaysian businessman and investor. He is the chairman and chief executive of Berjaya Corporation which is in a wide array of businesses which includes golfing, property, resorts, and gambling. In 2010, he entered the Forbes billionaire list with an estimated worth of US$1.3 billion (RM4.2 billion).

He 'bought' Cardiff City in May 2010. So far his wealth hasn't brought him success, and a lot of headaches! Billionaires usually get their way in the end. Hopefully this will improve Cardiff's lot!
