Buds have broken on all our fruit trees except the cherry, which may be a casualty of the drought. It is not good that the apples are beginning to flower this early. There is threat of rain for later tonight, and though we need it badly, there is a danger that it will damage these tender little blossoms. Growing things is so perilous. I don't know how real farmers survive all the worry, never mind the work itself.
