Trek Day 2: Ban Na Luang to Muang Ngoi
We set off early and walked to Ban Pha Yong village which was about twice the size of Ban Na Luang and with a clearly planned layout, so it felt less rural. We tried to visit the school but the teacher was at a wedding, so we went to the wedding instead! When we arrived, we were given a shot of Lao-Lao whisky from a petrol can and watched an interesting panpipe-style instrument being played. Just below the wedding were fields of watermelon and a few farmers spraying what we assumed to be some kind of fertiliser.
Most of the day's walking was out in the sunshine so it was ridiculously hot but we survived and arrived at the river before being taken by boat to a couple of villages and then finally to the tiny town of Muang Ngoi, our home for a couple of nights. It turns out there are barely enough rooms to accommodate the growing crowd so we found it hard to find anywhere so we all ended up sharing a room and going for a beer.
