Khajuraho's temples

Today we visited some of Khajuraho's temples, a World Heritage site and one of the seven wonders of India. Originally 85 temples were built between the 10th & 12th centuries and today, 22 of these mystical shrines survive complete with magnificent mythological and erotic carvings.

The stones are assembled like Lego with the top stone keeping it all in place. One of the temples has been reconstructed as the foundations were subsiding. The stones were numbered and these can still be seen.

We have seen these cute little animal that the locals call squirrel. The heat gets to them as well as us; it was 39 degrees this morning!! Other locals appeared unconcerned.

We have not seen or heard many birds in our travels, but this one was strutting his stuff!!
