Cope Rehabilitation and Visitors Centre
Today we visited the COPE Rehabilitation and Visitors Centre. COPE works together with the Centre for Medical Rehabilitation to provide people with disabilities access to physical rehabilitation services. These include prosthetics, orthotics, physio and occupational therapy. They rehab people who have experienced trauma, including those disabled by unexploded ordnance, those who are disabled through disease or congentially (for example club foot which is common in Laos.)
The Visitors Centre is excellent and provides lots of information on their work and on the unexploded ordnance in Laos which we also saw at the centre in Luang Prabang. Fred wanted to see some of the rehab facilities with her physio head on but unfortunately, as they work alongside the Laos Government so you are accessing Government buildings, you need pre-authorisation so she is unable to.
Afterwards we go to the Vat Sisaket which is ok ... we've seen better ... then over dinner we bump into a Dutch girl, Ann, we've seen from time to time on our travels and end up going for drinks with her and her friends - Stefan from Sweden and Auguste from Lithuania. Its a good night and we roll back just after 2am ... our latest night for a while!
