Danelets

Between them, our two great danes were part of our life for over 20 years. So it's hardly surprising that over the years, we've built up quite a collection of dane statues of various types and sizes.

These two are actually a rather charming salt and pepper set! We chose them because they matched the colour of our two dogs.

Amy, our first dane, was a very elegant black girl with a slim build - like a greyhound on steroids. She was rather highly strung and nervous, but very bright, and sweet and loving.

Her successor, Abby, was a harlequin, and as well as having markings that were  reminiscent of a cow, she was built like one; on one memorable occasion, as we walked her past a field of cattle they all rushed to the fence in great excitement - presumably thinking we'd kidnapped a calf! She had the wit of the average house brick, took her responsibilities as pack leader very seriously (though Vinnie could run rings around her, literally and mentally), and was totally devoted to Victoria.

I miss them.
